New Raptoreum Crypto Mining algorithm turns AMD Ryzen CPUs with massive L3 caches into money making machines

After GPUs and SSDs, its CPUs seem to be turning into another profitable solution for crypto mining. A new mining algorithm known as Raptoreum has been introduced which uses large L3 caches on AMD’s Ryzen desktop CPUs to earn great crypto cash.

The Raptoreum mining algorithm is designed to use the large L3 caches found in modern CPUs. It appears that this mining algorithm will work best with AMD’s Ryzen and Threadripper lineup since it offers the largest L3 cache sizes. In a report by BitCoin Press, miners reportedly run large crypto operations consisting of several hundred systems powered by AMD Ryzen CPUs to earn Raptoreum cash.

Speaking of Raptoreum itself, it is based on the GhostRider mining algorithm to keep the Raptoreum blockchain network clean of ASICs. The GhostRider algorithm uses a modified x16r and Cryptonite algorithm that uses the CPU L3 cache for mining. As such, AMD CPUs will be the preferred choice due to their large L3 cache sizes. CPUs like the older Ryzen 9 3900 and Ryzen 9 3900X offer up to 64MB of L3 cache while AMD’s Threadripper and EPYC stacks come in at 128 and 256MB of L3 cache depending on the configuration.

As for the mining rate, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900 can deliver up to 4600 H/s in the Raptoreum without any optimizations. The Ryzen 9 5950X that succeeded the Ryzen 9 3950X can offer up to 6800 H/s but based on price alone, the newer CPUs are not as profitable as their older counterparts. Intel Core i9-12900K also got an increased cache of 30MB and can deliver up to 3700 H / s per algorithm. To put things into perspective, the Ryzen 9 5950X can deliver up to 205 raptoriums per day while the Ryzen 9 5900X can deliver up to 175 raptoriums per day. Based on power costs and profitability, the Ryzen 9 5950X can generate approximately $4-5 per day, while the Ryzen 9 5900X can generate approximately $3.5 per day. The bigger the cache, the bigger the profits, which means bad news for EPYC Milan-X chips that will be rocking 768MB of L3 cache per chip. In a separate video discovered by El Chapuzas Informatico, the extensive Raptoreum CPU mining process that powers 28 Ryzen 9 Desktop CPUs can be seen. The other specifications are modest at best because the algorithm relies only on the L3 cache and not on the individual specifications of the PC.

We’ve seen with Ethereum and more recently, Chia, that these new algorithms can cause slight and temporary shortages of hardware components. The supply of the AMD Ryzen 5000 CPU is a little better but if the Raptoreum starts and we see a jump in its value, there is a chance that the chips will be consumed by this algorithm’s mining ecosystem.

Furthermore, AMD is expected to release its own Vermeer-X Ryzen CPUs with 3D cache which will provide nearly three times as much L3 cache, so there is a chance that Raptoreum miners will make these chips and upon launch, they can temporary production deficiency. It remains to be seen but what we do know is that not even CPUs are now safe from large-scale mining.
