AMD driver for DX11 games
Along with the Radeon RX 6950/6750/6650XT driver, AMD released a preview of its upcoming May update. This driver will be released later this month, but there is a good reason to check it out already.
Radeon Super Resolution 1.1 now with “Sharpen Effect” slider
The AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022 brings a collection of enhancements for Radeon Super Resolution technology as well as performance boost to DX11 games. In an official blog post, AMD outlines the changes being added to this driver.
First and foremost, AMD is now launching a new version of its Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) technology. The version 1.1 will include a Sharpen Filter which can be used to fine-tine this effect to desired settings.

Here’s a reminder that FSR, RSR works for all games and does not require unlike game developer implementation. Therefore, it is much easier to use. With improved user interface and new options, AMD clearly does not want RSR to compete with FSR 1.0 or even FSR 2.0, which is set to launch tomorrow.
The RSR will serve it purpose wherever FSR does not work, or it is simply not compatible with the hardware.
Improvements for DirectX11 games
Microsoft DirectX 12 APIs might be more popular these days for new games, but there is still a large gaming community playing older titles. Those games are also a focus for AMD, whose driver provides 3 to 17% higher performance for a number of games:
- Far Cry 5 – at 4% gains
- Farming Simulator 22 – at 3% gains
- Total War Saga: Troy – at 17% gains
- Total War Hammer 3 – at 5% gains
- Watch Dogs Legion – at 10% gains
- The Witcher 3 – at 3% gains
- Apex Legends – at 5% gains
- Overwatch – at 3% gains
- PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS – at 3% gains
- Valorant – at 7% gain
Crysis Remastered up to 24% faster
Interestingly, some games that are not even listed here show get even greater performance boost. CapFrameX, the developer of the frame time capture and analysis tool, confirms that Crysis Remastered shows up to 24% better framerate:

What this means for reviewers is that some DX11 games will soon need to be retested. The drivers are currently available as a preview, while the timing for the official release is currently unknown.
